Visit the Library Bookstore
The APL bookstore, Recycled Reads, opened on February 28, 2009 at 5335 Burnet Road in Austin. It carries an ever-changing selection of books and other materials. For information click here. More importantly, visit the store itself and do some shopping. Most books are priced at $1 and $2 so you can spend a little and get a lot! And all proceeds go directly to support the Austin Public Library.
Store hours are now limited to four days a week, but will be extented in the future. Currently the store is open from Thursday through Sunday 12 noon - 6pm
Persons interested in donating materials may bring them in during store hours or call Mindy Reed at 512-323-5123 to arrange a time.
Volunteer Opportunities
Many volunteers are needed to keep the library bookstore organized, orderly and stocked with merchandise. For details click here.
Persons interested in volunteering on a regular basis should complete a Library Volunteer Application and send it to the postal service or email address listed on the form.
If you have questions or want general information on how to become a library volunteer, send an email to volunteer@austinlibrary.org or call 512-974-7443.
Group sessions: Contact Sharon Edwards (sharon.edwards@ci.austin.tx.us or 512-974-7443) to make arrangements.
You may also want to consider assisting at one of APL's 22 locations -- probably there’s one near you. Some of the jobs you can do include:
-
Administrative Clerical Support: assist with general office and clerical duties (Austin History Center)
-
Book Shelving: return books to the library shelves (various branch locations)
-
Circulation Support: search the shelves for lost materials and help weed library shelves of books that are no longer circulating (various branch locations)
-
Inter-Library Loan Support: assist with photocopying, filing and mailing our books and library materials
-
Storytime Connection: read to children at local childcare centers
-
Austin History Center Support: assist with slide, photo and oral history collections
