Volunteer Opportunities
Austin Public Library needs volunteers!
Persons interested in volunteering on a regular basis should complete a Library Volunteer Application and send it to the email or postal service address listed on the form. If you have questions or want general information, send an email to volunteer@austinlibrary.org or call 512-974-7443.
Group sessions: Contact Sharon Edwards (sharon.edwards@ci.austin.tx.us or 512-974-7443) to make arrangements.
Opportunities are available both at the Faulk Central Library and at many branch locations. [Find a branch near you.] Samples of some of our current opportunities are listed below.
Wired For Youth Volunteer
Are computer skills your strength? Put them to good use by assisting our Technical Information Librarians with youth ages 9-14 in the effective use of computer technology.
Clerical Support Volunteer
Are you a jack of all trades? Use your administrative skills to assist the Austin Public Library with duties such as data entry, book processing, filing forms, performing searches for lost or overdue materials, performing searches for special request materials, assisting with library mail-outs, delivering library marketing materials, packaging outreach materials, preparing books and materials for loan to other libraries, and relabeling our collection. These opportunities are available at the Faulk Central Library.
Youth Services Volunteer
Do you have a creative side? Put it to the test by assisting in the preparation of craft materials and die cuts, providing storytime coverage at branch locations, creating props, flannelgraphs, and puppets, and appearing as "Echo", the library mascot.
Star Card Outreach Volunteer
Do you love to visit the library? Assist us with one-time outreach events designed to give every Austin youth their own reason to visit the library: a youth Star Card. Outreach opportunities are scheduled throughout the year in conjunction with various community events. Call the volunteer coordinator (512-974-7443) for a schedule of upcoming opportunities.
Paging Volunteer
Is organization the name of your game? Put those skills to work by assisting library staff with sorting and shelving returned books and materials according to the Dewey Decimal System. This opportunity is available at all library locations.
